About VMS

Village Montessori School has been serving families in Montgomery Village and surrounding areas since 1987. First under the direction of founder Patricia Aubin and now Sally Robinson, VMS is dedicated to providing a kind, loving and nurturing environment for our students and their families. We acknowledge we are helping to form future citizens, and are dedicated to providing an environment built on respect for each person within our school community. Our core goals are the development of the whole child, building partnerships with parents and developing a sense of community.

VMS provides our families with:

  • A Two-Year-Old pre-Montessori program
  • 5 mixed age Montessori classrooms
  • Weekly music and art instruction
  • Before- and after-care programs
  • A week-to-week summer program
  • Optional extra-curricular programs for soccer, dance, piano, karate, and Spanish language instruction

Several of our staff have been with VMS for over 15 years, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to their teaching. Others are newer to VMS, coming to us from other respected Montessori schools, bringing fresh ideas and energy to our community. Our teachers are certified through well-established organizations, most through American Montessori Society. All of our staff bring a commitment to teaching, providing our children with an environment that encourages curiosity and a love of learning.

FAQ

What is a Montessori education?
Dr. Maria Montessori developed her method of education at the turn of the 20th century based on her observations of children and the ways they learn. She noted that children learn most naturally during ‘sensitive periods’ for specific skills. Dr. Montessori developed materials and techniques to utilize those sensitive periods for learning.

Montessori classes provide the child with meaningful choices in all areas of the curriculum, and the child is encouraged to make his own choices. Responsibility and respect for the environment, both within the classroom and the world around him, and the people in that environment are cornerstones of the Montessori method.
Is there a religious component to a Montessori education?
